I just realized how different Meredith Grey is. She’s not generally pleasant, but has friends who stuck with her in life. She’s strong enough to take back her estranged boyfriend and be like Bailey in front of her interns. She’s so much unique than most of the usual female protagonists in tv. She is liberated and that’s why she was able to make it through.
When Derek dumped her in season 2, she didn’t cry alone in one dark corner. She managed to help herself through all the craps that happened in her life. It may not be in the way the usual girls do it, it defined who she is. A strong woman.
And though many girls won’t find her as a role model, I’m still glad she is the way she is. She has a more exciting life because she is able to do so many things many girls won’t dare to do because of the fear of being judged.
As Derek said,
In the time of crisis, you never freeze, because you’ve seen worse. You survived the worse. And you know we’ll survive, too. And being dark and twisted is not bad at all. It’s a strength. It makes you who you are.
In that moment, I wondered if death was strong enough to dissolve something so vital and sharp (like love).
